It Just Won't Burn!

Well we did it.
We met. We spoke. And the model of the US Capitol wouldn't burn. Too windy.
I was disappointed, and yet it struck me that there is a symbolism in the fact that our constitution and the governmental form is strong enough to withstand the pressures that it faces today.

We'll make sure that the burning goes better next time.

I hope you'll join us - where ever you are.
Find some friends of liberty and meet simultaneously with us on your town square on April 15th at 5:45 to continue the protest.

What follows is the text of the speech we gave today:

I want to thank you all for coming.

I have never done anything like this before and I’m a bit nervous.

I love my country, our constitution and our governmental structure and I want to make clear the fact that everything that is said and done here today is in peaceful, but vehement, protest to the corruption and self-serving actions of our representatives in Congress. It is not a rejection of our country, or our form of government.

We are here today to affirm our belief in the principles set forth by the founders of our country and to demand a reversal of laws – some recent – some in force for decades – which is in violation of those principles.

The Declaration of Independence says:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

There is an absolute source of right and wrong which is understood in the heart of every man.

Man is only free when he can choose to live voluntarily according those principles of right and wrong found in the Ten Commandments:

You shall have no other gods before me.
You shall not make any idols
You shall not take the name of the Lord in vain
Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy
Honor your father and mother
You shall not murder
You shall not commit adultery
You shall not steal
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
You shall not covet


These laws may not all be popular, they may not all be obeyed, but it cannot be denied that they have been the core beliefs of every truly free nation in the history of the world.

Further, every time in history when they are suppressed, ignored and even outlawed, the offending nation is destroyed from within. The Soviet Union and China brutally and comprehensively eliminated this moral basis from their nations and look where they are. I have been in both countries and seen first hand the lack of freedom they experience as they enjoy their freedom FROM religion and believe me, none of you would want to live there.

Freedom is not unrestrained license. It is voluntary self-restraint in accordance to a moral code which protects us from each other.
Without that self-imposed restraint you will have dangerous anarchy.

We heard during the election about spreading the wealth which is a violation of the 10th commandment Thou shalt not covet.
We have heard tax increases proposed as penal measures against those who have experience prosperity in violation of the 8th commandment Thou Shalt not steal.

The law has been used as a means of plunder and it has now grown to the point that I seriously question whether or not true freedom – the kind of freedom that men died for in 1777 – has been lost to us in this country forever.

It is time to point at Socialism where it appears and call it evil.

We now live our lives in every respect at the pleasure of the government – and this is wrong.

I believe that just as the Constitution begins with “We, the people,”
So we in this day have the responsibility to define for ourselves how our government ought to function. We must re-affirm the limits beyond which we will not allow our Federal government to encroach.

The time has come for the citizenry to send a clear message to Congress that is unfiltered by the media. It is time for you and me to stop listening to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glen Beck, and Bill O'Reilly unless you are willing to do something about the wholesale changes to our country that are coming as a result of the recent legislation passed by Congress. We can no longer trust our congressmen and women to uphold the principles in the Declaration of Independence:

The Troubled Asset Relief Program became law on October 3, 2008. This was the bank bailout bill.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 became law on February 17, 2009. This is the economic stimulus package.Both of these measures are serious and significant threats to those rights identified in the Declaration of Independence. They place too much control over our economy in the hands of too few and that power is dangerous. They spend money we simply don’t have and place our economy and even our national security at risk.

Our congressional representatives passed these measures in the face of overwhelming opposition from people like you and me.
The media was a tool wielded with great skill to generate fear and to pressure congress into adopting measures destructive to the free market which is directly linked to freedom in living.

We must begin today to form a grass roots movement which sends a message to Congress which cannot be distorted - cannot be muted – and cannot be ignored.

Today is March 15. It is the beginning of a peaceful demonstration which I for one, plan to make on the 15th of every month. I hope that others will join us each month until all across this nation, people just like us - who have a vested interest in the freedoms we enjoy – and a profound belief in the principles on which this nation were founded – meet on their local town squares and reject the current practices of our congress.

So here is a symbolic demonstration of my disgust with our congressional representatives. What I am doing is a serious act. It is a grave and painful act. This is NOT a call for acts of violence against the US Capitol building, nor is it a threat of any kind against our representatives.

It IS a rejection of the actions of our congress through the bank bailout bill and the stimulus bill and it is a demonstration of determined resistance to deaf ears and corrupt practices we have endured for too long.

It is the end of the vote and hope for me.
Last fall, we heard about change in Washington until we were nauseated. Have YOU seen change?

Beginning today – Let US make the change. Starting today and every month on the 15th – let us gather to demand an end to earmarks, financial influence by lobbyists over our representatives, confiscatory taxation, welfare for those who won’t work, and federal benefits of any kind for illegal aliens in our country.

Let’s use our time together each month to pressure our congress to listen to their constituents and not to congressional majority leaders.
Let’s support their opposition to bad legislation.
Please call your congressman, and senators.
Please call your state representative and state senator.

Please join our blog cdyj.blogspot.com and look for a website to coalesce our demands.

Please tell your friends and encourage other towns to start their own meetings on the 15th.

May our voice grow and be heard.

May there be justice and liberty for all once again in our nation.

And may we see God and the true source of blessing on our nation once again.

Listen To The People

The time has come for the citizenry to send a clear message to Congress that is unfiltered by the media.
It is time for you to stop listening to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glen Beck, and Bill O'Reilly unless you are unwilling to do something about the wholesale changes to our country that are coming.

We can no longer trust our congressmen and women to uphold the principles in the Declaration of Independence:

Both of these measures are serious and significant threats to the rights identified in the Declaration of Independence.

Our congressmen and women need to listen to the people protesting these steps.
But first the people need to speak.

Here's how:
On the 15th of every month we need to gather on our town square or at some other symbolic place at 5:45 PM.
We need to speak of our opposition to these measures and speak against corruption inherent in the way Congress works.
Then at 6:00 PM we will burn the symbol of US Capitol Building in effigy as a shocking demonstration by partriot citizens of our determination to end these policies and practices.
